The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Millard Jones (ASN: RA-18342034), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 11 August 1950 in the vicinity of Yongsan, Korea. A numerically superior enemy force attacked his company and were advancing under cover of intense mortar and automatic weapons fire. Private Jones, a machine gunner, remained in position firing his weapon with devastating accuracy into the onrushing enemy. Although his assistant was killed, he intrepidly held his ground alone and brought such constant and accurate fire to bear on the enemy that he succeeded in repelling the assault in his sector, inflicting approximately 50 casualties upon the enemy. His gallantry and complete disregard for his personal safety reflect the highest credit upon himself are in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
