The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Fulton A. Jones (ASN: RA-18030126), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 503d Field Artillery Battalion, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 30 November 1950 near Changye-ri, Korea. On the night of that date his battalion was attempting to break through an enemy roadblock that was approximately five miles in depth. Although he had been wounded by enemy mortar fire, he repeatedly assisted in removing the wounded from the road and placing them on the vehicles. He guided the convoy around disabled vehicles which blocked the road and up to a point where orders were given to dismount and seek cover in the hills. Disregarding this order, Sergeant Jones continued to guide five vehicles, loaded with wounded, through the intense hostile fire to a point within 500 yards of friendly lines. He then assisted in carrying the wounded to a position where they could receive medical attention. The gallant actions of Sergeant Jones reflect the highest credit upon himself are in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
