    Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 75 (March 9, 1953), Amended by G.O. No. 102 (April 1, 1953)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Second Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Arthur O. Jones (ASN: 0-2265768), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Battery C, 15th Field Artillery Battalion, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 18 December 1952, in the vicinity of Chorwon, Korea. On that date Lieutenant Jones was manning an artillery observation post, overlooking enemy territory, when three enemy tanks suddenly wheeled into view and began to bombard the friendly positions. Realizing that only his position commanded unlimited observation of the enemy tanks, he immediately began adjusting friendly artillery fire upon them. Although his position was soon discovered and subjected to a murderous barrage from the enemy, Lieutenant Jones, with complete disregard for personal safety, remained at the aperture of his bunker and continued to adjust fire upon the hostile tanks. He remained in his vulnerable position for over two hours, giving effective fire adjustments, until his bunker received a direct hit by an enemy shell, mortally wounding him. The artillery fires which he had adjusted forced the enemy tanks to withdraw without further damage to friendly installations and undoubtedly saved the lives of many men. The outstanding gallantry in action and consummate devotion to duty of Lieutenant Jones reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
