Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 146 (June 15, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Albert E. Jones (ASN: 0-2262418), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company F, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 5 March 1951, in the vicinity of Kyechon-ni, Korea. Lieutenant Jones was leading his platoon in a flanking movement to seize an enemy-held hill. An enemy machine gun suddenly opened fire on the unit as it reached its objective. One of his men had hit the ground in an exposed position and was unable to move. Putting his own life in jeopardy, Lieutenant Jones crawled to a vantage point from which he could observe the enemy machine gun. He then arose and threw two hand grenades, thus destroying the machine gun and its crew. He remained in the exposed position, killing five of the enemy, until enemy sniper fire wounded him in the arm. Though wounded, Lieutenant Jones refused to leave his unit until another platoon had passed through his position and his platoon was placed in a supporting role, The gallant conduct displayed by Lieutenant Jones reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
