The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Trenton Johnson (ASN: RA-6357771), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company F, 2d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 3 October 1951, Company F launched an attack on Hill 400, in the vicinity of Chorwon, Korea. During the assault, Corporal Johnson was wounded in both hands and rendered incapable of firing his rifle. However, he refused medical treatment and, moving around to the other wounded men, gathered a supply of hand grenades and then rejoined his unit, still in the attack. Moving aggressively forward, Corporal Johnson proceeded to hurl a shower of grenades upon the enemy forces with such accuracy that heavy casualties were inflicted. His brave action materially contributed to the successful completion of his unit’s mission. Corporal Johnson’s gallantry and personal fortitude reflect the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
