The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Warrant Officer, Junior Grade Perry J. Johnson, Jr. (ASN: W-907093), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 18 and 19 September 1950 in the vicinity of Yongsan, Korea. Company K had launched an assault in an effort to seize Hill 201 and during the attack all officers became casualties with the exception of Warrant Officer Johnson. Assuming command of the company, he led his men in a fierce attack and secured his objective, killing and capturing a large number of the enemy. When the enemy counterattacked in such strength as to make his position untenable, he withdrew his men, with a minimum of casualties, and formed a perimeter defense on nearby high ground. The next day he again led the assault, this time driving the enemy from the objective. After consolidating his newly gained position and reorganizing, he one more pushed forward and encountered an enemy force which was attempting to ambush a motorized column of his regiment. He deployed the company and in the ensuing firefight the majority of the enemy were killed. He then led an element of the company into the sector occupied by the remainder of the dispersed enemy and engaged them in hand-to-hand combat, killing many and causing the survivors to flee in disorder. The gallantry and inspiring leadership displayed by Warrant Officer Johnson reflect the highest credit upon himself are in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service..
