Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 19 (January 26, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class [then Private] Paul L. Johnson (ASN: RA-15250818), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the Medical Company, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 28 November 1950, near Majon-ni, Korea, Private Johnson volunteered to accompany a litter jeep to one of the company positions for the purpose of evacuating wounded. An attack by friendly forces was still in progress and the route to the area was commanded by intense enemy fire. Despite the danger involved and with utter disregard for his personal safety, he and his comrades proceeded through the enemy fire until reaching the position of a wounded man who was then loaded onto the litter jeep. Upon learning that two wounded lay ahead, he proceeded several hundred yards farther and successfully loaded and evacuated all three wounded personnel to a position of safety. By these actions he undoubtedly assisted in saving the lives of three wounded men. The heroism under fire displayed by Private Johnson on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
