The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Emory H. Johnson (ASN: RA-15056868), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the 77th Engineer Combat company, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. During the afternoon of 2 September 1950, upon learning that one of his men had been seriously wounded and was unable to leave the position previously occupied on a hill near Haman, Korea, Master Sergeant Johnson led two volunteers from his platoon up the hill where severe enemy resistance was encountered. By engaging the enemy in a fierce fire fight, he covered the evacuation of the casualty and then fought his way to safety. Master Sergeant Johnson’s military skill and selfless devotion to devotion to his men reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the United States Army.
