The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Edgar E. Johnson (ASN: RA-16261609), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 3d Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. When his company in the vicinity of Haman, Korea, was attacked by numerically superior enemy forces in the early morning hours of 6 September 1950, Private First Class Johnson remained in his foxhole and directed the fire of his automatic rifle at a group of fifteen enemy who were advancing on his position. When his rifle jammed, he seized a wounded comrade’s carbine, and repelled the attackers after having killed two and wounded several others. Private First Class Johnson’s calm courage and outstanding devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the United States Army.
