Headquarters, 25th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 129 (February 18, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Morris W. Johns (ASN: RA-14306035), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 3d Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 17 September 1950, at Sobuk-san, Korea, Private First Class Johns’ unit was subjected to heavy enemy assault following a long preparatory bombardment. When his squad leader was wounded, he immediately advanced to direct he movement and fire of the men. Although exposed to intense small arms and automatic weapons fire, he moved throughout the area encouraging his comrades, personally directed effective automatic rifle fire at the enemy and, after the attack was repulsed, redeployed the squad for future action. Private First Class Johns’ initiative, courageous leadership and selfless devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
