The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Medical Corps) Robert T. Jensen (ASN: 0-60761), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a Medical Officer with the 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. During the night of 28 – 29 November 1950, near Sackang-ni, Korea, a battalion of the 7th Infantry was under very strong attack from an estimated two enemy regiments. Captain Jensen, battalion surgeon, heedless of his own safety, continued personal emergency medical attention to the wounded above ground although heavy enemy artillery, mortar, and small arms fire caused him to place his aid station and most of its personnel underground. In the morning he called for helicopter evacuation of a very seriously wounded man. The enemy directed a heavy concentration of fire on the helicopter, but Captain Jensen, although exposed to this fire, unhesitatingly accompanied the patient across one hundred yards of open ground and supervised the loading of the wounded man into the helicopter. Captain Jensen’s gallantry and selfless devotion to duty reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
