The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Rondal E. Jenkins (ASN: RA-25323504), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 30 August 1951 in the vicinity of Yanggu, Korea. On this date Company A was engaging a strong enemy force. During the encounter a platoon leader was wounded and fell in an area completely exposed to intense enemy machine gun fire. Sergeant Jenkins, with complete disregard for his own safety and the intense enemy fire, advanced to the wounded officer, only to discover he had died from his wounds. Returning to his squad, Sergeant Jenkins, although seriously wounded, led his men in the attack until he fell exhausted. As a result of his selfless devotion and courage, his men aggressively assaulted the hostile positions forcing the enemy to withdraw. The gallantry and outstanding devotion to duty and comrades demonstrated by Sergeant Jenkins on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
