The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Frederick H. Jenisch (ASN: ER-31107382), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters Company, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 25 May 1951, in the vicinity of Ogumal, Korea. On that date he was a member of the Regimental Anti-Tank and Mine Platoon, which was part of a convoy that was ambushed by an enemy force. Under intense enemy automatic weapons fire, the men of the platoon became confused and disorganized. With a display of forceful leadership, Corporal Jenisch remained in his exposed position and reorganized the platoon, setting up defensive positions. During this action the platoon suffered many casualties, and he repeatedly crossed open terrain, exposing himself to the intense enemy fire, in order to render first aid to the wounded. He then placed the wounded upon a tank which evacuated them to safety. His courageous actions enabled his unit to establish better defensive positions and as a result of his devotion to his comrades many lives were saved. The gallant conduct of Corporal Jenisch reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
