The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Malecio Jacobo (ASN: US-50000398), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 30 May 1951, in the vicinity of Inje, Korea. While his company was withdrawing from an enemy ambush, Private Jacobo noticed a wounded comrade lying in an area exposed to enemy fire. Instantly and without thought for his own safety, he rushed through intense enemy small arms and automatic weapons fire to the side of his wounded comrade and carried him back through the hail of fire to the company positions, where an aid man was waiting. Private Jacobo then remained to man a machine gun in order to cover the withdrawal of his company, maintaining heavy fire on the enemy until the withdrawal was completed. The gallantry and selfless devotion to a wounded comrade displayed by Private Jacobo reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
