The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) William J. Jackson (ASN: 0-411432), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3d Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 1 December 1950, near Kunu-ri, Korea, the battalion command post was subjected to an intense barrage of hostile small arms and automatic weapons fire, followed by an attack on a company which was moving to a new position. Organizing an assault force, Captain Jackson returned to the command post area and led the force in an attack which annihilated the enemy in that area. Captain Jackson’s courage, determination and able leadership are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
