Headquarters, Military Assistance Command, Vietnam, General Orders No. 1328 (March 25, 1970)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Captain (Armor) Paul Nash Jackson, United States Army, for gallantry in action. Captain Jackson distinguished himself by gallantry in action on 24 January 1970 while serving as Senior Advisor, 1st Troop, 1st Armored Cavalry Regiment, 5th Infantry Division, Army of the Republic of Vietnam. On this date, Captain Jackson’s unit was escorting an emergency re-supply convoy from Lam Son in Binh Duong Province to Song Be in Phuoc Long Province, when an estimated North Vietnamese Army battalion ambushed them with rockets, mortars and heavy small arms fire. Captain Jackson, realizing that immediate support was required to prevent annihilation of the surprised convoy, heroically exposed himself to enemy fire on top of his Armored Personnel Carrier in order to best locate the enemy strong points and direct supporting fires on them. His immediate action was responsible for instant air and artillery support which saved the lives of many of his comrades. Captain Jackson’s conspicuous gallantry in action was in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
