The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Edward B. Jackson, Jr. (ASN: RA-13131846), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company I, 3d Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 15 September 1950, during a company attack near Saga, Korea, both the platoon leader and platoon sergeant became casualties. Sergeant First Class Jackson, a squad leader, assumed command in the heat of battle and heedless of the intense small arms and mortar fire, led the men with exceptional skill. Moving through the heavy fire to direct and encourage his men, he set an inspiring example which enabled the unit to complete its mission successfully. Sergeant First Class Jackson’s valor, initiative and outstanding leadership reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the United States Army.
