The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class George Raymond LaPlante (ASN: RA-11227595), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company E, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 11 October 1952 in the vicinity of Chorwon, North Korea. On that date, Company E, was part of a battalion sized attack on Hill 200 near “T-Bone Ridge”. Private LaPlante, an automatic rifleman, was seriously wounded by enemy grenades as the company pressed the attack on the enemy held hill. Although bleeding profusely, and in great pain, Private LaPlante, without regard for personal safety, refused to leave his weapon and be evacuated for medical treatment. He continued to lay down a deadly base of fire inflicting extremely heavy casualties on the enemy, thus enabling his platoon to successfully accomplish their mission. His self sacrifice, bravery, and determination were an inspiration to all who observed his actions. Private LaPlante’s display of gallantry in action reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
