The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) John L. Insani (ASN: 0-1332818), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 3d Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 17 February 1951, while occupying defensive positions on Hill 127, Korea, Company L was suddenly attacked by a fanatical enemy force. Heedless of the withering fire sweeping the area, Captain Insani left a covered position and rushed to the threatened sector of the perimeter. Finding that the recoilless rifle section had been overrun and disorganized, he hastily organized a counter force. Meanwhile, the enemy, taking advantage of the confusion caused by the assault, raked the top of the ridge with intense small arms and automatic weapons fire in an effort to dislodge the defenders. Courageously braving the hail of fire blanketing the area, Captain Insani personally led a well-timed counterattack against the hostile force and effected a complete rout. Captain Insani’s gallant actions under fire reflects the highest credit upon himself and are in keeping with the esteemed traditions of the military service.
