The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal James E. Huey, Jr. (ASN: RA-15254155), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 17 May 1951, in the vicinity of Pungchon-ni, Korea. During a furious attack by masses of the enemy who succeeded in overrunning the outpost positions and were threatening the main line of defense, Corporal Huey, a squad leader, without orders and with utter disregard for his own safety, immediately led his squad in a daring charge to relieve another squad which was surrounded and in danger of annihilation. His squad, under his inspiring leadership, stormed the hostile positions with grenades and bayonets and quickly rescued the trapped squad, restoring the defensive line and routing the enemy with heavy losses. The gallantry and outstanding leadership displayed by Corporal Huey reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
