The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Harold J. Huebner (ASN: 36204967), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 127th Infantry Regiment, 32d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Papua, New Guinea, on 20 December 1942. During the progress of an infantry attack, Private Huebner, with complete disregard for his own safety, went forward under heavy machine gun fire to give first aid to a wounded soldier who had fallen in the enemy fire lane only a short distance from a machine gun emplacement. His courageous act greatly aided the morale of the unit to which he was attached. Private Huebner was killed by fire from this emplacement. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
