The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Henry Leonard Huber (ASN: RA-13309633), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company M, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 18 May 1951, in the vicinity of Chaun-ni, Korea. On that date, under intense enemy small arms, automatic weapons, mortar, and artillery fire, he carried a wounded comrade to temporary cover. There, he administered first aid, and treated all wounded in the vicinity. He then enlisted the aid of some other men to assist him in constructing a litter to carry the most severely wounded men. Corporal Huber and three others then proceeded to carry the men. After going only a short distance, artillery rounds began falling near them, and the three other men dropped the litter and ran, but Corporal Huber remained. He crossed an open field under the intense enemy fire, attempting to secure help from a passing tank to carry the wounded to safety. Failing in this, he returned to his comrade and began to carry him on his back. By this gallant action and devotion to his fallen comrade, Corporal Huber brought great credit upon him and upon the military service.
