Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 328 (July 21, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Philip L. Hubbel (ASN: RA-18278726), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters Company, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 26 May 1951, in the vicinity of Inje, Korea. Sergeant Hubbel was leading his squad in front of a tank column to clear the road of mines when the enemy suddenly opened with heavy small arms and machine gun fire. While others were forced to take cover, Sergeant Hubbel exposed himself and courageously proceeded well beyond the foremost tank element, removing mines until he fell wounded. His fearless action enabled the tanks to resume the advance and overrun the enemy positions. The gallantry displayed by Sergeant Hubbel reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
