Headquarters, 25th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 124 (February 17, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Robert H. Hoyle (ASN: RA-11189609), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Battery B, 8th Field Artillery Battalion, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. North of Ipsok, Korea, on 28 November 1950, Private First Class Hoyle was operating a radio of the artillery forward observer during a sharp engagement with the enemy. As friendly units began to displace, he continued his transmissions while directing rifle fire and grenades at the onrushing enemy. When ordered to withdraw from his exposed position, he carried the communication equipment and assisted his comrades in evacuating their wounded platoon leader some five hundred yards to safety. Private First Class Hoyle’s courage, determination and selfless devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
