The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Julian A. Houston (ASN: 0-1332170), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 3d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 19 May 1951, Lieutenant Houston voluntarily led his platoon against a numerically superior enemy which had completely surrounded another platoon during K Company’s assault upon Hill 675, near Koyang-san, Korea. While moving across open terrain toward several hostile machine gun positions, he was wounded in the arm but continued his advance through the intense enemy automatic weapons fire to a point from which he neutralized the hostile entrenchments with hand grenades and rifle fire. Then he shouted words of encouragement to his men and led them in the bitter struggle until the encircled platoon was freed. Further exposing himself to enemy mortar bursts, he assisted in the evacuation of the wounded. Lieutenant Houston’s gallant and intrepid actions reflect the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
