The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Distinguished Service Medal to Major General Edwin Jacob House (ASN: 0-8659), United States Army Air Forces, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States during the period 7 December 1941 to 10 June 1943. As Commander of the Antilles Air Task Force, General House demonstrated outstanding leadership and initiative in the employment of his Task Force in belligerent operations against enemy submarines. By his zealous and his tireless energy in personally supervising and inspecting air installations, personnel and equipment throughout the Frontier General House gave maximum assistance to the Commander, Caribbean Sea Frontier. Under his supervision and encouragement, moreover, marked progress was made in developing tactics and in improving techniques for combating submarines in this area. The work of General House during his tour of duty in Caribbean Sea Frontier contributed much to furthering the war effort. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Major General House and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
