The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Corporal Earl W. House, United States Army, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy, at Camp Haan, California, on 3 June 1944. On that date, an airplane crashed and caught fire and the gasoline tanks were exploding. Disregarding the intense heat and the danger, Corporal House, assisted by another soldier, cut openings in the rear section of the plane and rescued the gunner who had been badly injured and was helpless. The heroism displayed by Corporal House on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
