Headquarters, 25th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 86 (January 30, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Jesse R. Honaker (ASN: RA-20527931), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the 25th Reconnaissance Company, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. When the patrol with which Sergeant Honaker was serving on 4 January 1951, near Seoul, Korea, was surrounded by a large hostile force, several men were wounded and lay in an exposed area. Leaving the relative safety of his tank, he crossed open terrain under hostile fire to evacuate the wounded and placed them inside the tank. Taking a position on the outside of the tank he delivered effective machine gun fire while the tank negotiated an enemy roadblock to transport the wounded to safety. Returning to the scene of the action, he provided covering fire while his comrades destroyed equipment to prevent its falling into enemy hands. Sergeant Honaker’s indomitable courage, determination and staunch devotion to duty and to his comrades are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
