The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major James Robert Weaver (AFSN: AF-14307553), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a B-52 Aircraft Commander on 29 December 1972, at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam. On that date, Major Weaver led a wave of B-52 bombers to a high priority target north of Hanoi, North Vietnam. Despite numerous enemy aircraft threats and several surface-to-air missiles fired at their cell, Major Weaver’s wave was able to successfully strike and destroy their assigned target. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Major Weaver reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.
