The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Isaac L. Holbron (ASN: RA-30124277), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 5th Regimental Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 11 August 1950, when the battalion was attacked near Pongam-ni, Korea, hostile machine gun fire reduced the effectiveness of the tanks supporting the battalion, Heedless of he heavy concentrations of enemy fire, Sergeant Holbron left the comparative safety of his position and manned a machine gun mounted on one of the tanks, neutralizing an enemy machine gun emplacement, thereby enabling one of the squads to bring effective counterfire on the attacking force. As he shifted his weapon toward another enemy strongpoint Sergeant Holbron was wounded and thrown from the tank. The heroic actions of Sergeant Holbron contributed to the repulse of the enemy attack and reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the United States Army.
