The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Colonel (Field Artillery), [then Lieutenant Colonel] Arthur H. Hogan (ASN: 0-18551), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters, 64th Field Artillery Battalion, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. Near Chirwon, Korea, on 3 September 1950, Colonel Hogan was in the area of Battery B when it was subjected to a powerful hostile assault. Although constantly exposed to heavy enemy fire, he calmly moved throughout the position directing effective counterfire and placing observers at vantage points. When it became necessary to order the displacement of the battery, he remained and supervised the movement until the last element was successfully evacuated. Colonel Hogan’s courage, resolute manner and selfless devotion to duty were an inspiration to his men and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
