The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Wayne C. Hoehn (ASN: 494584175), United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force while serving with Company E, 2d Battalion (Airmobile), 12th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), in the Republic of Cambodia. Private First Class Hoehn distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions on 7 May 1970, in the Republic of Cambodia. When some members of the platoon were wounded, he advanced to the first casualty. He then moved to help the next comrade and carried him to safety. After directing the movement of the injured he applied mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to one of the injured men for well over an hour until he could be evacuated. His gallant action is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
