The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal George Hodgkinson (ASN: RA-36944355), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company E, 2d Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 27 July 1950, Corporal Hodgkinson was in a defensive position with his unit near Hwanggen, Korea, when an intense hostile artillery and small arms barrage opened on the area. Noting that two men had been wounded and lay in an exposed area, Corporal Hodgkinson left his foxhole and carried the more seriously wounded man 150 yards to the rear. He then returned despite the continuing heavy fire and carried the second man to the same place of relative safety. Corporal Hodgkinson’s conspicuous gallantry and devotion to his fallen soldiers reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the United States Army.
