The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Jessie L. Hobbs (ASN: RA-34887825), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 2d Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. The combat patrol which Master Sergeant Hobbs was leading on 16 September 1950, near Hanngnyong, Korea, was halted by numerically superior hostile forces. Despite the intense enemy mortar and machine gun fire directed at the platoon, Master Sergeant Hobbs immediately deployed his men by personally placing each man, directed the fire of his rocket launcher and recoilless rifle teams, and inspired his men to hold their position and inflict heavy casualties on the enemy. By his courageous devotion to duty and skillful leadership, he assisted greatly in the successful accomplishment of he patrol’s mission. Master Sergeant Hobbs’ outstanding leadership reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
