The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Warren E. Hinzman (ASN: RA-15409000), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. A reconnaissance patrol moving through a mountain pass near Ichon, Korea, on 6 November 1950, encountered a large hostile force which opened fire from commanding positions. As the patrol dismounted an d sought cover along the road it was subjected to withering crossfire. Heedless of his personal safety, Corporal Hinzman removed the last vehicle in the column to a less exposed area, then moved across open terrain to a position from which he directed effective fire on the enemy. When two of his comrades were wounded and lay in an exposed area, he again crossed open terrain to administer aid and assist in their evacuation. Corporal Hinzman’s valorous conduct and selfless regard for the welfare of his comrades exemplify the highest traditions of the United States Army.
