The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Robert W. Hill (ASN: 0-2206405), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. Beginning at about 0500 hours on 4 July 19050, near Sangn-Yong, Korea, enemy infantry numbering as many as 400 began fierce attacks on Lieutenant Hill’s platoon which was holding a battalion flank position. Directing accurate small arms, mortar and artillery fire on the enemy, he broke up the initial thrust. Throughout the day while the platoon was under repeated attacks, Lieutenant Hill moved about among his men, encouraging hem and directing their fire, heedless of his own safety in the face of the heavy enemy shelling. Lieutenant Hill’s valiant and inspiring leadership served as a memorable example for his men and reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
