The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Charles Munro Hill (ASN: US-56077606), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with Company F, 2d Battalion, 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division while serving in a forward hill position in Korea on May 25, 1952. A direct enemy hit on the bunker killed the other occupant and wounded Corporal Hill. Realizing that his firepower was needed to stop the enemy assault that was taking place, Corporal Hill refused to leave his position for medical aid and braced himself in the bunker so he could direct his fire against the enemy. For nearly four hours he stayed in position, preventing the enemy from breaking through and finally turning them back. Only when he had been assured that the enemy assault was repulsed and that the rest of the wounded had been treated did Corporal Hill consent to medical aid and evacuation from his position. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Corporal Hill, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
