The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Robert W. Herron (ASN: ER-375266368), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 23 May 1951, in the vicinity of Hyon-ni, Korea. Company C was given the mission of taking high ground held by the enemy. Sergeant Herron was leading his platoon in the attack and approaching the enemy positions, when the hostile fire became very intense and the lead scout was hit. Seeing his men waver, Sergeant Herron resolutely secured an automatic rifle and boldly charged the enemy positions. His action so inspired the men in his platoon that they rushed the enemy and quickly secured the objective. This made it possible for another unit to pass through and continue the attack. The gallantry and determined leadership displayed by Sergeant Herron reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
