The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Robert Herrera (ASN: RA-30413945), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company F, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 7 January 1951 in the vicinity of Wonju, Korea. The defensive position of Company F began to receive a large volume of sniper fire from a small village to its rear. The snipers were well concealed and inflicted several casualties upon the company. Corporal Herrera located the snipers’ position and then advanced across flat rice fields toward the enemy. Although his course afforded no protection from the hostile fire now directed at him, he continued to advance until he was close enough to hurl a grenade into a house, which wounded two of the enemy and caused two more to surrender. The gallantry displayed by Corporal Herrera reflects the highest great upon himself is in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
