The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the BSM V to Corporal George P. Heath (ASN: RA-11169209), United States Army, for heroic achievement during ground operations against a hostile force as a member of the Medical Company, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 25 May 1951, near Chang-ni, Korea, while attacking enemy-held positions on Hill 912, Company B, 7th Infantry Regiment was subjected to an intense volume of automatic weapons and machine gun fire. Corporal Heath, an Aidman attached to Company B, voluntarily left his position of comparative safety and, moving across exposed terrain, checked for any possible casualties which might have been sustained by the friendly forces. Finding none, he courageously joined in assaulting several enemy machine gun emplacements. Throughout the action, he fearlessly fought side by side with his comrades; and his presence was a prime morale factor among the members of the unit. Corporal Heath’s selfless heroism, aggressiveness, and resoluteness reflect great credit upon himself and exemplify the high traditions of the military service.
