Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 6 (January 7, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Lenzy E. Harper (ASN: RA-15272401), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 30 November 1950 in the vicinity of Kunu-ri, Korea. On that date his company was counterattacking with the mission of seizing an enemy-held hill. Sergeant Harper assisted in reorganizing the company’s weapons platoon into a rifle platoon and led them in the attack. With complete disregard for his personal safety, he repeatedly exposed himself to intense hostile fire and, on one occasion, he charged single-handedly an enemy automatic weapons position, killing three enemy soldiers. The elimination of this position, from where the enemy had halted the advance of his platoon, was vitally important to the success of the attack. Sergeant Harper’s cool courage under fire was an inspiration to all members of his unit and contributed greatly to the success of his company’s mission. The gallantry and inspiring leadership of Sergeant Harper reflect great credit upon himself and are in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
