The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal to Lieutenant Colonel John D. Adams, United States Marine Corps, for meritorious achievement in connection with combat operations as Target Intelligence Officer, Assistant Chief of Staff, G-2, I Marine Expeditionary Force, from November 2002 to May 2003, in support of Operations ENDURING and IRAQI Freedom. Throughout this period, Lieutenant Colonel Adams demonstrated exceptional leadership abilities, superior organizational skills, and total dedication to duty. Through his ingenuity, perseverance, and tenacity, he developed and implemented highly innovative measures to produce target intelligence, collateral damage assessments, and battle damage assessments. His proactive leadership was the driving force behind a target intelligence process that accurately and efficiently contributed to the prosecution of over 7,000 fire missions against Iraqi targets. The collateral damage assessment procedures he devised helped save the lives of countless innocent noncombatants. Overall, his creative and passionate pursuit of innovation and excellence significantly improved the decision-making capabilities of the I Marine Expeditionary Force staff and major subordinate commands during fluid and fast-paced, combat operations. Lieutenant Colonel Adams’ total effectiveness, forceful leadership, and loyal devotion to duty reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and of the United States Naval Service.
