Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 24 (January 30, 1953)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Roger R. Haller (ASN: RA-12377451), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 3d Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. Corporal Haller was a member of a combat patrol of Company K, 3d Battalion, moving through enemy territory in the vicinity of Kyeho-dong, Korea on 21 September 1952, when they were ambushed by the enemy. After killing three of the enemy during the ensuing fight, he was wounded and disarmed. Ignoring his wounds, he went to rescue two seriously wounded comrades who were in danger of being captured. Removing one of the wounded to comparative safety and after rendering first aid to the wounded man, he returned and evacuated the other casualty. He then located the patrol, directed the men of a relief squad to where he placed the wounded and assisted in evacuating them. Corporal Haller’s gallantry reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
