Headquarters, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), General Orders No. 16098 (December 17, 1969)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Henry Lawson Hall, Jr. (ASN: 14698214) United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Captain Hall distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 24 October 1969, while serving with Company B, 2d Battalion (Airmobile), 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division (airmobile), as Commanding Officer during a protective reaction mission in Tay Ninh Province, Republic of Vietnam. When his unit became heavily engaged with an undetermined size enemy force, Captain Hall, completely disregarding his own safety, bravely directed his men against the well entrenched enemy. Seeing that a platoon leader and a platoon sergeant were seriously wounded, Captain Hall personally made an attempt to rescue the platoon sergeant but was driven back several times by the intense fire. Captain Hall then crawled back and forth in front of the defensive perimeter, exposing himself to the fire as he directed air strikes. Captain Hall’s gallant action is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
