The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain [then First Lieutenant] Jose C. Guevarra, Philippine Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the 41st Infantry Regiment, Philippine Army, in January 1942 at the Abucay Sector, Bataan. As Assistant S-3 of the Regiment, Captain Guevarra, with a mortar section of the Regimental Combat Company, counterattacked and dislodged the enemy which had threatened the right flank of the regiment.
