Headquarters, 25th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 162 (1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class James S. Grove (ASN: RA-12106755), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company M, 3d Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 6 November 1950, near Kumchon, Korea, Sergeant First Class Grove’s mortar section was supporting a rifle platoon during an intense engagement with strong hostile forces. Driving his jeep through heavy small arms fire, he advanced to the forward elements of the company to aid in the evacuation of the wounded. Although wounded himself on the fifth trip, he continued his mission and evacuated another comrade to a place of safety. Sergeant First Class Grove’s valorous actions reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the United States Army.
