Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 259 (July 1, 1952)

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Jack L. Grosvenor (ASN: 0-1331282), United States Army, for heroic achievement as a member of Company C, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 5 March 1952, in the vicinity of Kumwha, Korea. On that date, Lieutenant Grosvenor was the leader of an ambush patrol which advanced on a known outpost of the enemy. As the friendly forces approached, the enemy pinned them down with devastating machine-gun, small arms, and grenade fire. Without hesitation and completely disregarding his own safety, he rushed to the foremost advance scout. From that position, repeatedly exposing himself to enemy fire, he skillfully directed and maneuvered his squad to positions where they could bring heavy fire upon the enemy, silencing all but one machine-gun. All during this time, Lieutenant Grosvenor continued to expose himself to the hostile troops, shouting to them to surrender, and giving courage and inspiration to his men. Upon receiving orders to withdraw, his actions were responsible for the safe return of his men. The heroism in action displayed by Lieutenant Grosvenor reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
