The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Arthur L. Gregory (ASN: 0-2020725), United States Army, for heroic achievement during ground operations against a hostile force as a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 31 March 1951, near Kich-on, Korea, Lieutenant Gregory, during a withdrawal of his company, remained behind to see that every man possible withdrew safely. He was following his company when one of his infantrymen was wounded by the enemy fire and unable to move further. With complete disregard for his personal safety and heedless of the intense automatic weapons fire directed at him, Lieutenant Gregory ran to the aid of the stricken man, lifted him upon his back and carried him to the safety of a covered position. Lieutenant Gregory’s heroism, courage, and presence of mind reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
