Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 324 (July 28, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Adam B. Gregoire (ASN: ER-38373112), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company E, 2d Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 6 June 1951, near Harang-dong, Korea, the Third Platoon of Company E was attacking Hill 705 when its advance was halted by intense small arms and automatic weapons fire. As the men of the Third Platoon took hasty cover, the enemy began to throw grenades down the slope. In this desperate situation, Sergeant Gregoire voluntarily jumped up from his covered position and single-handedly charged a nearby enemy machine gun emplacement. Heedless of the heavy fire being concentrated on him, he continued forward firing his weapon. Exhausting his ammunition, Sergeant Gregoire hurled a hand grenade into the hostile position, silencing the weapon. His courageous actions inspired the remainder of the platoon to follow him in an assault which terminated with the successful seizure of the objective. The gallantry and aggressiveness displayed by Sergeant Gregoire reflects the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
