The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal [then Private First Class] Bernard Greenberg (ASN: US-51001094), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 30 July 1951 in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On this date, during an assault on well-fortified enemy positions, the unit was halted by intense enemy automatic weapons fire. Corporal Greenberg, assistant gunner on a 57-mm. recoilless rifle, immediately carried his weapon and set it up on the most forward position. Braving the intense enemy fire he commenced firing upon enemy emplacements, completely destroying several of them, while inflicting numerous enemy casualties. By his courageous action the company was able to continue the assault with a minimum of casualties and successfully accomplish its mission. The gallantry in action displayed by Corporal Greenberg on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
